Gasp! Besides being a taste tester? Yes, besides being a taste tester. A new study done by CareerBuilder confirmed that the claim of “work life leads to weight gain” was supported by a survey that showed 44% of workers have gained weight at their current employment situation.

Spending too much time cooped up at a desk can not only lead to weight gain, but can also put you at risk for diabetes, cancer and death. Not that the work you’re doing is going to kill you, but the health risks caused by your work arrangement can.

So what exactly is causing people to gain so much weight while at work?

According to Huffington Post:

The CareerBuilder survey found that the most commonly reported causes of weight gain include sitting at a desk all day, eating lunch on the job, stress-induced eating and dining out regularly.

Here’s a list of 10 jobs CareerBuilder put together that have the greatest likelihood for gaining weight:
10. Travel agent
9. Artist/Designer/Architect
8. Physician (ironic, right?)
7. Protective Services (Police, Firefighter)
6. Administrative Assistant
5. Marketing/Public Relations Professional
4. Social Worker
3. Teacher
2. Judge/Attorney
1. Information Technology Professional

All the little snacking here and there on the job really does add up and will eventually show. Make sure you get a little exercise in every day, even if it’s just walking your dog before/after work and if exercise is impossible during the weekdays, take advantage of the weekend downtime. And try to resist the goodies left out at the faculty/staff/employee kitchen. A little cutting back can go a long way.
