Actor Benedict Cumberbatch was “force-feeding himself doughnuts” to gain weight for his latest role in the BBC TV series “Parade’s End”.

The director Susanna White, said it was Cumberbatch’s decision to pile on the pounds as novelist Madox Ford to make his character fat.

She said:

“He was tired, having just come off the set of ‘Sherlock’.”
