Saturday, January 3rd, 2009 @ 12:51pm
Celebrity trainer, David Kirsch, is owner of the Madison Square Club in New York City, author of three books, including Ultimate New York Body Plan, and regular guest expert on Extreme Makeover. He doesn't want to hear an excuse that you're too busy to exercise, so he shares his secrets with Weight Watchers that you can do anytime, anywhere.
What better clientele to have just for that than busy New Yorkers...so here are ways to get your butt moving in a New York minute:
If you're stuck in the office for more than eight hours a day,
Forward Bend (Good Mornings) Says Kirsch, “One of the toughest things about being stuck at the office is not moving. I find that getting out of my chair and away from my desk, even if it’s for a few minutes, really helps me get reenergized and refocused.” We agree.
DO IT NOW: Start with your hands behind your head, feet shoulder-width apart. Inhale as you bend down at the waist and exhale as you lift back to starting position. Keep a flat back and tight abs. The key is to work your abs and core. 15 repetitions

See Clearly What's good for your heart is good for your eyes. An active lifestyle can cut your risk of age-related macular degeneration by up to 70%, according to a British Journal of Ophthalmology study of 4,000 adults. This incurable disease makes reading, driving, and seeing fine details difficult, and it's the most common cause of blindness after age 60. Do this Keep active by walking at least 12 blocks (about a mile) a day, and wear UVA/UVB-blocking sunglasses during outdoor activities all year long.
Celebrity Diet No-No's
Wednesday, December 31st, 2008 @ 12:10pm
What does Carrie Underwood, Vanessa Hudgens, Jenny McCarthy and Haylie Duff all have in common?! They all fall victim to lack of will power when it comes to certain foods that break their diet.
Carrie Underwood "Expect Carrie to put on a few pounds, because I will not deny myself pumpkin pie," she says.
Vanessa Hudgens "I just love chocolate and I can't give it up," the High School Musical 3 star says. "I find myself eating it all the time, even when I don't want to be. It just appears in my mouth!"
Jenny McCarthy "Coldstone ice cream cake" is the actress's diet kryptonite – she requested it for her birthday on Nov. 1. Another way to derail her diet? "PMS!"
Haylie Duff "Tortilla chips – like chips and salsa," says Duff, who next lends her voice to the animated comedy Foodfight! "The chips just kill me. I could eat them all day!"

Burn Major Calories At Home
Wednesday, December 31st, 2008 @ 11:44am
All you need is a hand towel, a radio and a couple of stairs to burn anywhere between 200-500 calories depending on the intensity level of the workout and how hard you work. The workout is based on a 45 minute plan and a 150lb woman, but if you only have a few minutes to spare try the 15 minute plan...of course you would burn less calories, but something is better than nothing. Here's a few moves at a glance:
1. Move and Groove: Turn on some tunes and dance—the more you shake it, the more calories you'll melt!
2. Towel Shuffle: Stand with knees slightly bent, arms extended, holding towel taut at chest height. Step right foot to right followed by left foot three times; repeat to left.
3. Knee-Ups: Holding towel, do a little hop as you raise left knee and pass towel under leg from left hand to right. Repeat with right leg. 4. Stair Sizzler: Attack a set of stairs: Walk or jog up and down or, if you only have a couple of stairs, simply step up and down repeatedly.
Main Move: Plank with Arm Circles
Jennifer Aniston Stayed In Shape For Marley & Me
Monday, December 29th, 2008 @ 3:16pm
Jennifer Aniston stayed in shape with yoga for her role in Marley & Me, the No.1 box office hit that opened Christmas Day, by waking up at 4 am to squeeze in an hour of yoga before shooting. I've already posted about Jennifer's favorite yoga pose, which was....ummm, actually I don't know because the star had forgot the name.
However, this time her long-time yoga instructor, Mandy Ingber, shares Jennifer's workout with InStyle:
TRY IT To get a taste of Aniston's yoga ritual, try Ingber's three pose routine. Hold each pose for 30 seconds and repeat 2-3 times, making sure to breathe evenly and to maintain proper posture.
1. Chair pose (thighs and glutes) With your legs shoulder width apart, bend your knees with your weight on your heels and lower your body until your thighs are parallel with the floor.
2. Boat pose (abdominals) Sit up straight with your feet in front of you, legs bent. Lift your feet off the floor and extend your arms in front of you and hold.
Know How To Work The Free Weights
Sunday, December 28th, 2008 @ 9:13am
Intimidated by the machines at the gym, but don't know what exercises to do with the free weights, or any of the "balls," or bars?
Women's Health Magazine gives a fat burning workout, making these easy exercises great to do when you've missed a strength class or when just doing your own routine.
FitCeleb's Editor Tip: If you are ever unsure of how to use a weight machine, the free weights, stretch cage, or anything in the gym - DO NOT be embarrassed to ask a personal trainer - of course, one who's preferably not with a client. It's better to be safe than sorry!
Traveling Lunge with Biceps Curl And Shoulder Press Holding a pair of 5- to 10-pound dumbbells, step forward with your left leg into a lunge. Make sure that your left leg is parallel to the floor, keeping your knee behind your toes. Curl the dumbbells to your chest as you sink down, and as you rise, rotate your wrists so that your palms face forward and press the dumbbells overhead when you are in the standing position. Bring your feet together. Then repeat, stepping your right leg forward. Do one set (two if you're fit).
Richard Simmons' 411 On Holiday Weight
Saturday, December 27th, 2008 @ 8:45am
I am still amazed that Richard Simmons is still doing his thing. Everytime I think that we haven't heard from the aerobics guru in quite some time, he comes out with yet another dvd. This year he will be releasing his latest workout dvd, Supersweatin': Party Off the Pounds, on Dec. 30th.
He tells ET Online 5 tips of how to stay healthy, in brief they are:
- Exercise in the morning 10-15 mins.
- Drink 8 glasses of water a day
- Eat early
- Compliment yourself
- Always, always know your self worth
These are common things we should know already about living a healthy lifestyle, however it's always good to be reminded of the foundations.
Simmons also opened his own studio 36 years ago and is still very passionate about his work.
