When I say “disgusting” I’m not referring to the fact that some brides are willing to have a nose drip feed them, but the fact that these brides or anyone would even go to such an extent to lose weight for their wedding day.
This new fad diet is called the “K-E diet”, that enables women to lose up to 20 pounds in ten days. The diet consists of a small feeding tube that is inserted into the nose and administers fat, protein and water to the body, which prevents you from eating for ten days. The solution that is deposited into the stomach suppresses your appetite and is calculated for 800 calories a day.
Through the process ketosis, body fat is burned, which achieves fast weight-loss results.
The diet is already popular in Europe (Italy and Spain) and is known as the KEN or Ketogenic Enteral Nutrition diet in the UK.
Dr Oliver Di Pietro who practices the method Bay Harbour Islands, Florida, told ABC News:
‘Within a few hours and your hunger and appetite go away completely, so patients are actually not hungry at all for the whole then days.
But besides the hefty price of $1,500 to do the diet, the known side effects are constipation, bad breath, lack of energy, and possible mental trauma from losing so much weight in so little time.
Psychoanalyst Bethany Marshall of Beverly Hills, California explained:
‘If you lose the weight too quickly your mind is not going to be able to catch up with a newer, skinnier you.’
So is it really worth it for the BIG day? I think not. If you’re getting married, your fiancé obviously already loves you for you are, and your friends and family most likely feel the same. If you want to feel good and feel confident down the aisle, then I say do it the ol’ fashioned way – diet and exercise.
And if you don’t have enough time to do either or, your going to look beautiful no matter what, because wedding dresses are made to make the bride look beautiful. Don’t buy a dress that you have to fit into.
Dr Di Pietro told the New York Times:
‘At first I decided not to do it for people who just want to lose a few pounds. But then I thought, why should I say five or ten pounds are not enough? People want to be perfect.’
I don’t like this doctor. He seems like one of those who enables eating disorders and make people feel like they need to be perfect in life. Guess what? No one is perfect! And if you are, then either your not admitting your faults, or your going to the extreme to be so.
Live life happy and healthy.
