Fitness Review: P.E.P.P.E.R.’s Boot Camp in Central Park, NY

photo 1-1

Last week, I took a fun and killer boot camp class in Central Park, NY.  Thankfully the weather was just right for this intense workout – not too hot and humid.

This isn’t your ordinary boot camp class.  The warmup alone got my heart pumping and my quads (thighs) burning. After doing laps that included some push-ups and touching the ground, we then lined up for some “animal” exercises, which made me feel like I was back in lacrosse practice doing line drills.  Alexander E. Kaufman, the trainer and creator, demonstrated the exercise and explained the modification if needed.

After doing line drills, you picked a partner that is pretty much the same body mass as you, and then broke out into small groups.  As you recovered from the warmup and line drills, Alexander goes over which exercise will be done at each of the four stations.  At each station there is a personal trainer to help assist the group. After you complete a round at each station the exercises change and then you rotate stations again.

Don’t expect the stations to be your typical boot camp exercises.  For instance, one exercise was to carry your partner on your back and run up a mini-hill.  You run back down together and then switch.  The next time you got to that station the exercise was a fireman lift drill.  You carry your partner like your a fireman and run up the hill, then you run back down together and switch.  If you have back injuries or are truly unsure and afraid of doing any of these exercises, Alexander will surely give you an alternative option to still get an insanely good workout.

After all stations are completed three times, everyone lines up for about 15 minutes of abs.

All I have to say is if running and rolling around in the grass and dirt is your thing, then this is the workout for you.  Don’t go to this class with your freshly done manicure or Lululemon outfit.  And I promise you will be SORE!  I was sore for three days!!  It’s really a fun and challenging workout.

And what better way to workout in New York City than beautiful Central Park, enjoy the weather and outside while it lasts!

The boot camp class is every Tuesday at 7:00pm-8:15pm for $20.  BUT – Fit Celeb readers get a $5 discount.  Just RSVP by emailing info@personalpepper.com or alexander@personalpepper.com.
