Last night in London, Missy Franklin, 17-year-old swimming superstar and favorite new talent, won her first individual Olympic gold medal in the 100 meter backstroke. The young Olympian is already 2 for 2, also being a member of the 4 x 100 meter freestyle relay, which placed 3rd on Saturday night. Not only did Missy Franklin earn herself a forever memorable gold medal in the 100 meter backstroke, but she also set a new Olympic record, touching at 58.33 seconds.

Typical 17-year-olds enter senior year with a new car, but Missy Franklin will have the privilege of claiming to be a gold medal Olympian and an Olympic record holder in the 100 meter backstroke. How many 17-year-olds can say that? Outside the pool, Missy Franklin is just a normal teenager, just enjoying her teenage life. It’s easy to forget that someone as talented, mature, and smart as she is, is only 17-years-old. Missy Franklin has captured the world, not only with her talent, but also with her bubbly, loving and memorable personality. I can say for myself that I am falling out of my seat cheering on one of my new favorite Olympians, and I cannot wait to see how she wows the world in the days in London to come. Go Missy Franklin!!!! Go for gold!!!
