Plastic Surgery Beauties, Please Stand Up!

With controversary over regular beauty pageants, I wonder what people will be talking about once they hear of The Miss Plastic Hungary 2009 , which is a pageant full of surgically enhanced beauties in Budapest, Hungary -- a place where plastic surgery is definitely not praised.

According to the Huffington Post, photographer Marton Szipal, one of the pageant judges, said:

"I think this competition is long overdue,"

"Hungarians used to laugh about plastic surgery but it's time for Hungarian women to care more about their appearance. They are the most beautiful in Europe."

Before some of us have a knee-jerk reaction to the competition, the pageant is not full of oversized breasts, Angelina Jolie types lips or leather faces. Plastic surgeon Dr. Tamas Rozsos said,

"This about restoring harmony ... eliminating asymmetries and giving women the opportunity to have normal features," Rozsos said.

"Plastic surgery has a bad reputation in Hungary but its mostly due to the exaggerations." Eventhough cut backs have been made by Hungary to lessen the spending on health services, Rozsos said that the number of surgeries are rising each year.

"People for whom this is important always find the money," Rozsos said.

And beware, this pagaent doesn't consider natural beauty as a requirement. In fact to qualify for the pageant, Hungarian residents must prove they fully had a "nip & tuck" -- AND, Botox or collagen injections do not count.

The organizers of the event claimed contestants were expected to show "a perfect harmony of body and soul," but the three-part pageant concentrated almost exclusively on the women's physical attributes and the usually conspicuous wishes for world peace went missing.
