Jennie Garth Grows Her Own Vegetables

Health nut Jennie Garth has turned her front lawn into a vegetable garden , so her three daughters can learn all about the benefits of eating organic produce.

The actress, who is married to Twilight star Peter Facinelli, grew up on a farm and she missed being able to garden for her own fruit and vegetables, so she persuaded her husband to let her turn their Hollywood estate into a vegetable garden. The former Beverly Hills, 90210 star, who is also a spokesperson for the American Heart Association, says,

"I lived on a farm and we had a big garden, so gardening and growing our own vegetables was just part of our lives.

"I recently, with my girls, planted a very small garden in our front yard of our city house and I don't really care that everyone can see it because I have to have a garden somewhere and they love it.

"We have lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, sugar snap peas, and strawberries .. The girls love getting dirty and picking vegetables they want to grow every year and watering them and growing them. I let them help me cook them, which puts a different perspective on it.

"I'm not just serving the food to them and forcing them to eat it. They really are invested and they care about what they're eating. Kids like the vegetables when they're raw, actually, and they can dip them into ranch dressing or chocolate; I don't care as long as they're eating their vegetables!"

Touting its new tagline Go greener(SM), TruGreen, the nation's largest professional lawn care service, today launched an initiative to help educate Americans on how unlocking their passion for their lawns can also positively impact the environment. TruGreen is the exclusive U.S. organic and sustainable lawn and landscape care sponsor of Earth Day Network. To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Earth Day in 2010, TruGreen is suggesting to homeowners 10 sustainable lawn care tips at www.earthday.org/action/trugreen that qualify for Earth Day Network's Billion Acts of Green(TM) environmental service initiative.

As part of its sponsorship, TruGreen will participate in Earth Day Network's flagship Earth Day event on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. on April 25. Free to the public, the event will recognize achievements for mobilizing America to create a green economy.

Howard Stern Explains Obese Attack On Gabourey Sidibe

OK, I don't know exactly what Howard Stern said about 'Precious' star Gabourey Sidibe initially (I'm sure it was a bit over the top) - but I do agree with the points he made in his defense about the "attack" on the actress' size.

We can all see she is very big - and although I'm all about embracing curves and believe size shouldn't matter - I strongly believe health should matter.  Without our health, we have nothing.

This is not going against Gabourey in any means, but as a concern for her health (just like we do when we realize actors or actresses have drug/alcohol related problems).  And it's true, obesity is a serious issue among our nation today!

Did you know:

"To date more than 12.5 million children and adolescents - 17.1 percent of people ages 2 to 19 years - are overweight."

"As they grow older, overweight, children and adolescents are more likely to have risk factors associated with cariovascular disease such as high blodd pressure, high cholesterol, and Type 2 diabetes," said Surgeon General Steven K. Galson, M.D., M.P.H., director of The Childhood Overweight and Obesity Prevention Initiative.

We should continue to celebrate curves, but in a healthy way -- and this does not mean we should talk bad about obese people, but offer them the support they need and make them realize that if nothing is done, their health - their LIFE is in jeopardy.
