Tuesday, August 31st, 2010 @ 10:00am
Did you know one of two American adults has gingivitis, an early form of gum disease? You may be surprised to learn that many don’t even realize they have gingivitis, and if left untreated, it could lead to a more serious form of gum disease known as periodontitis, an infection that can causes tooth loss in adults.
To help people better understand gingivitis and how they can help prevent gum health issues, Crest and Oral-B have declared September National Gingivitis Awareness Month.
Throughout September and beyond, Crest and Oral-B are working to spread the word about gingivitis and have created an educational video with Dr. Travis Stork, of CBS’s “The Doctors” and dental hygienist Amy Hazlewood to educate Americans about gingivitis and what they can do to help prevent and help reverse it. You can view the video on YouTube.com here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lisKXY9w3X4
Additionally, Crest and Oral-B are helping consumers reverse and protect against gingivitis by introducing a Crest Pro-Health Clinical Gum Protection. Tuesday, August 17th, 2010 @ 10:00am
School season is right around the corner, which means sport season is here! Before they hit the field in any sport, check these safety tips provided by www.safekids.org/sports.
FIRST THINGS FIRST: Every child should receive a pre-participation physical evaluation (PPE) every year. These exams help with the prevention and treatment of any underlying conditions the young athlete may have.
Action: Parents, talk to your child’s doctor and ask them to perform the full Pre-Participation Evaluation. You can download a copy of the exam here.
BEFORE PRACTICE, PLAY OR COMPETITION: Warming up and stretching before play is essential. This helps athletes avoid injuries such as muscle tears or sprains by stretching and releasing any muscle tension.
Action: Make sure there is time set aside before every practice and game to warm up. This could mean a light run, jogging in place or anything that brings the athletes’ heart rate up gradually. Instruct the kids on how to stretch muscles and holding for 10-15 seconds.
HYDRATION: Hydrating well before, during and after practices and games is a must. Action: Make sure your athlete drinks about 12 ounces of fluid 30 minutes before activity begins; at least 10 gulps every 20 minutes of play and every 20 minutes during the first hour after the activity to make up for fluid loss.
Penélope Cruz Would Close Teen Magazines
Wednesday, July 28th, 2010 @ 8:04am
Beautiful actress Penélope Cruz says,
“I would close down all those teenage magazines that encourage young girls to diet. Who says that to be pretty you have to be thin? Some people look better thin and some don’t. There is almost a standard being created where only thin is acceptable. The influence of those magazines on girls as young as 13 is horrific.” (via Styleite)
