The soccer superstar, 37, hopes to take part in The Games very soon.
In a recent interview on the Today Show David Beckham said:
I’m very proud of what I’ve achieved in my career so far.I’ve obviously played for the national team for quite a few years, and now I want to represent the G.B. team in the Olympics.
In London for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebration, Beckham answered his critics who say his celebrity status has “overshadowed” his athletic abilities.
He talks about the critics comments stating:
I’m not surprised. I don’t really take too much interest in those kind of comments, but I have said that I felt that those comments are disrespectful, because I’ve had kind of a successful career with what I do.
Kind of a successful career? Modest David Beckham has had more than a “kind of successful career.” He is a player for the L.A. Galaxy (and former Manchester United) player with a father who never let David’s successes go to his head.
Quoting his father, Ted Beckham, David stated:
If I had a good game my Dad would say, ‘You did okay, but these are the things you should be doing.’
Beckham said his father finally sort of praised him when he was around the age of 26 or 27.
Thinking back to that David said,
It brings me goosebumps because it’s an amazing moment to hear that from someone you look up to for years and continue to look up to.
He addresses the fact that he is getting used to being the “old guy” on the team. Regardless of age Beckham’s skills have made him a legend!
Can we see David Beckham playing in the upcoming Olympic Games? … Hopefully!
